Heather Maxwell, singer/songwriter and ethnomusicologist,
delivers a dazzling show of modern African
and world music with her 6-piece ensemble,
Afrika Soul. Maxwell's compositions are strongly
influenced by her experiences of musical life
in West Africa and her American roots in gospel
and jazz. The result is a rich, earthy, sultry
style. Her voice and presence recall singers
Erika Badu, Angelique Kidjo, Les Nubians,
and Vaya con Tigo.
